Biggar grew up as a railway town in the early 1900s when the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway built through the area. It was named after William Hodgins Biggar, the railway's general counsel. According to local legend, the famous slogan began as a survey crew's prank on a town sign, and residents liked it so much they kept it.
