Martensville began in 1939 when Isaac Martens and his son Dave bought land north of Saskatoon and sold small parcels to people who wanted to leave the city. Unlike most Saskatchewan towns, which formed around a railway and grain elevator, it grew up around a schoolhouse. It became a village in 1966, a town in 1969, and a city in 2009, and the 2021 census counted 10,549 residents.
