The town lies within the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews No. 287.

The first settlers arrived around 1904 and 1905, and a post office opened in 1907 under the name Rosetown, in honour of James and Ann Rose, who came from England. With the arrival of the Canadian Northern Railway in 1908 and 1909, the townsite grew quickly, and Rosetown was incorporated as a town in 1910. Farming remains central to the local economy, alongside manufacturing, and oil and gas.
